    Good Samaritan Critical; Suspect Arrested

Good Samaritan Critical; Suspect Arrested - Jacksonville News Story - WJXT Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Hours after a 21-year-old man coming to the aid of a woman being carjacked was shot, police arrested a man with an extensive arrest history.

Frank Davis was shot in the chest Sunday night just after 7 p.m. when police said he tried to help a woman being carjacked in a driveway in the 2600 block of Belvedere Street, off Lem Turner Road near Soutel Drive.

Davis was transported to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where he remaines in critical condition.

According to the police report the stolen Ford Escort was stopped less than two hours after the carjacking after a brief chase. Samuel Byrd III was taken into custody for questioning.

Police said Bryd denied shooting Davis or stealing the car, but added that he suffers from blackouts. The police report quotes Byrd's ex-girlfriend as saying that Byrd called her at 7:12 p.m. and said he "just shot somebody."

Byrd, 36, was charged with carjacking and attempted murder. At a Byrd's first-appearance hearing Monday afternoon, bail was denied.

Channel 4 learned that Byrd has numerous arrests for traffic offenses and three felony arrests, but all the felony charges were dropped and Byrd has never served any time in prison.

So, help your neighbor or stand by and be a good witness?

Regardless, ya'll be careful out there!

Sad! Hope the person who got shot gets better! I think the car jacker with the black outs will get some jail time out of this one, or worse if the person who was shot should die! Anyway, we need to get him off the streets, he's a total waste of skin!

    I am outraged.
They let him go countless times until he got it right??????

Let's hope he gets the Death Penality this time.
Then we won't have to give him 3 hots and a cot for the rest of his life.
Let him black out permanently. Jesus will take care of him...

Guys like this do not even deserve to breath the same air as good people like the kid he shot.

God, I pray you heal the Good Samaritan Completely and Quickly!

    + 1 on all counts.

I wonder what the "a man with an extensive arrest history" actually means -- e.g., in terms of convictions?, for what?, time served?, why? etc.

If I were to intervene on behalf of my neighbor I will not being doing so unarmed. The story doesn't say anything about the victim being armed or not. If he wasn't it was worse than taking a knife to a gunfight!

I would hope, if my friend or neighbor were in serious danger, that I would do more than just call the police.

Agreed- I hope I wouldn't be satisfied with just being a witness unless the circumstances were extreme.

If it were next door and I was 110% sure it was a carjacking I'd approach with my 30-30 drawn. I'm decent with my 1911, but I can take a dime out at 30 yards with the model 94 30-30. Fired that rifle for the first time when I was 4 years old

I take your mind-set on this issue as well.

That's the key right there. If you're not prepared, you need to take that into account before you act.

Anybody that would carjack a ford escort will just plead the insanity defense,I personally think they should help him with a permanent blackout

it is amazing how many repeat offender news stories i have seen in the past month. It seems the same scum is responsible for most everything.

Why do are these people out of prison?
