I grew up in a small farm town about 60 miles from there.

Police say Sanders saw the men come in and grabbed a .44 caliber handgun. He shot both men, according to police. One fell immediately inside the store; the other stumbled to get away but then fell at the entrance of the store.

Sounds like they were feeling lucky right up until the point that random 2 lb. chuncks of flesh were violently being removed.

Congrats to the clerk...perhaps it will deter anyone that entertains the thought of committing this crime against the store in the future.

That is why i carry a .44 mag. One or two shots is usually a fatal dose for thingsa a lot bigger and tougher than a two legged varmint. It is no slower to get out, and all you people who carry "mouse guns, that you can't get that tlast digit of your hand on, you really should run a combat course with a model 29, four inch, and then run one with your "baby Glock". you might be surprised, even with out getting usedto the higher recoil and blast, that you shoot a lot better with number 29 than with a toy gun. Come see me if you think a 4" N frame is too big to carry. i carry one daily.

I ran a shooting (robbery) in KCMO in the early 80's at a 7-11 store. The guy was shot 6 times by the store clerk with a Model 29. The dude was sprawled out all over the twinkie rack and deader than a rock. Twinkies, cup cakes and Hostess fried pies piled on top of him and a big pool of blood.

Since we didn't attempt to resuscitate the perp, we were kind of milling around outside and decided to check out the store clerk because he was kind of shook up.

The clerk says, "Can I ask you guys a question?" I said "yeah."

He said, "You know I had to shoot the guy six times to get him to stop moving... I thought a .44 mag would have killed him right away." He then said, "I asked the cops the same thing and all they did was laugh at me."

My partner said, "Oh you killed him with the first shot... but you've gotta give 'em a few seconds to die."

I had to chuckle because the clerk said, "Okay, thanks man... I'll remember that next time."

Before we left the scene I asked my partner if he wanted me to go get him a couple of Hostess fried apple pies.
