Good, 2 armed clerks, 1 dead BG
Acute failure of the victim selection process leading to lead overdose.
-------------------------------------------------
MONROE, NC (WBTV) - A pair of store clerks shot and killed a gunman during an attempted robbery in Monroe late Thursday night, Monroe police said.
The two convenience store clerks reacted by pulling their own guns during the attempted robbery and exchanging fire with the suspect, police said.
The shooting happened at the Sunny Food Store located on Walkup Road at 10:17 p.m.
According to the Monroe Police Department, the suspect approached the two clerks in the store, displayed a gun and demanded money from the register.
During the robbery, both of the clerks in the store pulled out their own weapons. It's unclear at this point who fired the first shot or how many shots were fired, but police say shots were exchanged.
The suspect was hit at least once, and stumbled down the street before collapsing in the front yard of a house.
The suspect, 23-year-old Robert Christopher Young of Monroe, was found in front of 302 McIntrye Street, police said.
The clerks on duty, brothers Sophia Pich and Jesus Vergara, were not injured.
Monroe police officials said the suspect was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, but was pronounced dead by medical staff a short time later.
Hours later, police said they were called back out to the store again for a large crowd who had gathered. According to officers, they were family members of the suspect. The crowd was dispersed without incident.
As of Friday afternoon, Union County District Attorney John Snyder said police were still investigating the shooting and conducting interviews with witnesses.
Once their report is turned over to Snyder's office, he hopes to have a decision as to whether charges should be filed in the case early next week.

Getting caught in crossfire is not a good career move. This is one bad guy that will not make the same mistake twice, good for the clerks they get to go home to their loved ones.

The late perp was going to medical school as soon as he robbed that store.

Those people should have been gathered together at a home, and they should have been commiserating at how one of their own had become a violent predator. This was an opportunity for them to reflect on how they need to become more mutually supportive and perform family interventions before another member is lost to a life of crime and incarceration.
Instead, they went to confront the dead thug's victims? Well this kind of thing can't be left simmering or I fear our clerks will have future trouble. In any event, this story is a reminder that in most cases, a defensive shooting rarely ends cleanly and may presage a battle with courts or the perp's survivors.

He wanted to be a rapper and a basketball player. He had plans to do both as soon as he got his GED and raised his baby daughter.

Actually this happens quite a lot with certain members of our society. Occasionaly the Police have more trouble and make more arrests controling the crowd then they do with the inital event that caused the problem.
This is also much more difficult to control and dangerous for the officers

The Knuckledraggers family should have gathered at the store BEFORE he walked in and robbed the joint, thereby preventing his impending "suicide". IF they really loved him. Now all they want is vengence. Sad their intelligence doesn't allow them to see it that way.

Good post. Glad that store didn't have the "No Gun" policy cause we here on this forum know that usually only works to the advantage of the Bad Guy.

I'm glad it worked out for the brothers but I would not want to be in their shoes. They killed a respected person who had a lot of life goals to achieve and sadly they ended his life.

Don't they just hate it, when the Good Guys are armed too.
I'm just surprised that they said only "one" bullet hit the BG.... sounds like the clerks need more practice on moving targets.

The BG's are going to have to start buying Life Insurance to take care of their relatives upon their demise, and due to their profession the monthly installments will probably be pretty high.
