Off-duty cop thwarts chain-wielding robber at KFC
SAN DIEGO (AP) — A would-be robber wielding a chain at a San Diego Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant didn't count on one of the customers being an armed, off-duty, plainclothes police sergeant. Witnesses said the man barged in Saturday afternoon, smashed his heavy chain on the counter and ordered all the employees into the kitchen.

But before he could open the cash register, the sergeant pointed his gun at the man and ordered him to the ground.

Witnesses said the suspect demanded to see the officer's badge, and the sergeant complied.

The suspect was arrested for attempted armed robbery.

Wonder if there will be a call to ban assault chains?

That's how bad it is. If you're not a cop, even the criminals don't believe that you should have a gun if you're in California. LOL He probably figured that it was another BG wanting in on the cut and wanted to see ID. The stupidity of Southern California never ceases to amaze me.

Just goes to show the intelligence (or lack thereof) your average criminal.

The cop should have showed his badge after the BG was on the ground (bleeding or in cuffs)

I don't usually carry my badge off duty. I would never have thought a BG caught in the act of their crime would ask to see one. Really strange BG in this story.

If I was in the thug business in California I'd figure the odds were in my favor of nobody being armed.

Study your map well and make sure you don't bring the "bidness" to N. Cal. There are a lot of successful "bidnessmen" in the well populated areas of Southern Ca. and the Bay Area. (San Jose, Oakland etc.) You would do very well!
