Suspected cop killer arrested in Tampa, Florida This Just In - CNN.com Blogs
A man suspected of shooting two Tampa, Florida police officers was arrested Friday night, police said.

Dontae Morris, 24, is accused of shooting Officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis during an early-morning traffic stop Tuesday near downtown Tampa. The officers, both 31, later died at a hospital.

Morris, an ex-convict who was released from prison in April, turned himself in through a third party, Police Chief Jane Castor said in a press conference Friday.

Another woman was also arrested Friday night and charged federally with witnessing a felony and not reporting it, Castor said.

Such a shame that he did not resist arrest, would have saved the taxpayers a lot of money.

+1 here. He doesn't deserve the time that he will be given for the rest of his life.

He'll get the death penalty, no doubt about it. The outcome will be the same, it will just take longer.

Wish the authorities spent that much effort on ALL the murders. Amazing how some lives rate a stronger response than others.

    How could this happen?

Question for LEO. I'm wondering how a suspect in a traffic stop could shoot and kill two officers before they could return fire? Not trying to find fault with them, but are there prescribed procedures for approaching a car late at night when two officers are on the scene? One patrolman pulled the car over, ran the tag and called for backup. They both ended up dead.

Both were fathers, one with four sons and one with expectant wife due any day. Very, very sad. And yes, Tampa Police had every available man on the search for three days. As it should be, I think. Lucky for him someone talked the suspect into surrendering through an attorney.
Otherwise, he probably would have met a more immediate fate.

Now that Morris has been arrested I believe that the public may get more information about what happened. This is not the time to speculate on what occurred.
I know we in law-enforcement will use the deaths of these two officers to gain insight that may help prevent this same type of tragedy from occurring to others in the future.

I mean no disrespect, Old School. I hate to think that such a low-life could take the lives of two heroic professionals so suddenly. Everyone in law enforcement has my respect and deepest sympathy in this tragic loss.

No disrespect taken sir and thank you for your support of law-enforcement. I think we all may have our own thoughts on what might have happened that night but until TPD releases there official report it is speculation on all our parts.
