Two would-be robbers forgot to ask their victim a key question:

Do you have a gun and know how to use it?

The 21-year-old Bartlett manís answer might have prevented the two 16-year-olds from being shot.

Instead, an exchange of gunfire between the Bartlett man and the robbers Wednesday night left one teenager dead and the other wounded.

Alyssa Moore, a spokeswoman for Memphis police, said authorities have not released the names of the robber who was killed or the other teenager, who was in noncritical condition.

The robbery portion of the case is still under investigation and charges are pending. State prosecutor Thomas Henderson said Friday the office will not prosecute the potential robbery victim, saying his actions appear justified.

The man, who works for a local gun range, declined comment Friday. He asked that his name not be published because authorities told him the attempted robbery may be gang-related.

The shootout occurred about 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Edgewater Apartments east of Sycamore View and south of Raleigh-LaGrange.

According to Moore, one of the suspects fired at the man during an attempted robbery.

The victim, who was within 3 feet of one robber and about 10 from the other, fired five shots, four of them striking the would-be robbers.

According to the state Department of Public Safety, the potential victim is a licensed handgun permit holder.

Nice. Good to hear. And for once a news source that doesn't publish the name of the real victim. Er, would-be victim anyway.

Four shots out of five found their mark. This is pretty good shooting.

Don't give the newspaper too much credit

The Commercial Appeal is one of the most anti-gun newspapers in America. Just one example- they despise concealed carry so much in Tennessee that they published a list of every concealed carry permit holder's name and address, which they obtained from public records. The state had to pass a law to prevent it from happening again in the future.

This is one that always puzzles me because the media can file to have the official records released and then they can legally publish his name if they desire even against his will for it not to be released.

I could file to have them released if I desired to and unless a judge has order the documents sealed they must release them under current law.

After reading this story in the link and the comments, I am wondering.
Do people really think these guys are first time offenders who got caught the first time they tried this?

I believe these BG's have done this before and have ramped up their Careers as Criminals to the point of Armed Robbery!
How hard is it to understand that one does not wake up one morning and decided I want to be an Armed Robber? Silly People, they start out by shoplifting and bullying classmates to impress their piers. Then allowing them to run rampant in the streets without curfews and discipline has got to encourage their behavior.

The fact that they chose to ply their trade on the wrong victim just shows that they failed at making another good choice.

The Hippie Chicks comment and point of view confirms that some people do not have a firm grasp on reality.

Had they chosen her, it's a good chance they would still be plying their trade as Career Criminals. And she would "Dead Broke"!

Sadly, the BG's Family did nothing during their early development years to teach these young men that a "Life of Crime" is no way to live.

Perhaps we should have neutered the parents years ago. Then they could copulate all they want without the inconvenience of having to raise offspring! (Yea, I know, not financially advantageous for welfare recipients.)
The only problem is how do you choose who to sterilize?

Perhaps if we just put down every armed robber and thief we come across, they will either learn discipline or be eliminated from the gene pool.

    Ok, I'm though!
What have you done to prepare for the end of civilization as we know it?

I saw the list, only saw names and expiration dates. Saw city, but no street address.
