    Good: Trooper's shooting ruled justified.

Trooper to suspect: 'Drop the gun or I'll kill you' | StarTribune.com

When the cop tells you to drop the rifle, you should do it. This State Trooper waited as long as he could.

Asked if the case might be one of suicide-by-trooper, Langer said that while "it certainly is a possibility," it was impossible to know for sure because Lira did not leave behind a note or statement.
Note or not that would be my take on it.

i have thought about what i would say many times before, if i thought i was in imminent danger of loosing my life and the words ( drop the gun or ill kill you.) is exactly what i would say to the thug....those exact words.

    Storm,

Unless you are a police you might want to rethink and revise that phrase.
Especially if you find yourself within earshot of others be they direct witnesses by eye, or just folk who can overhear your statements from afar.

Remember, anything you utter/say as heard by a witness will likely be held against you in a court of law. : |

Oft times there is little time for words, although on occasion when time permitted I have been more flowery and descriptive in an official capacity.

When a police officer tells you to drop a gun or he will kill you... It is generally a good idea to do so...

Trooper did what he had to do. It's a shame, suspect looked like he was under the influence and was not hitting on all of his cylinders.

Agreed. Seems to me that the trooper gave him every chance he could.

The trooper waited longer than I would have. The guy worked the action and a round ejects... G'Night.

It's always sad to see happen no matter which way it goes. Some situations just have to end up with only one going home. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Of course, that doesn't change what we might be thinking -- meaning getting prepared for the next step, if required.

I am glad the officer is ok but it seems that he waited for an eternity to act decisively. Is it better to say, drop the gun or I will shoot?

Its sad that we have reached the point of having to play this semantical BS.

In the current conditions, "Drop the gun or I will shoot." would probably be better than a more graphic warning.

Then again it might be viable to state that you made the warning as graphic as possible to disuade the aggressor, as you did not want to shoot him, if it could be avoided.

The trooper had no other choice, the dirtbag made his choice.
