6 dead in New Mexico business shooting, police say - CNN.com

(CNN) -- New Mexico authorities said a former employee shot and killed five people at a business Monday in Albuquerque before turning the gun on himself.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call at 9:26 a.m. (11:26 a.m. ET) that multiple shots had been fired. When officers entered the building, they found a total of 10 people shot -- four were dead, including a man believed to be the shooter, officials said. Two have since died as a result of gunshot wounds; two are in stable condition and two others are receiving emergency medical attention, police said.

"We believe this incident to be a domestic-violence workplace situation," Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz said.

One of the victims, Schultz said, is believed to be the wife or girlfriend of the shooter -- who was a current employee at Emcore Coporation. A website for the Emcore Corporation describes its business as fiber optics and solar power technology.

Police also said that they have located the children of the offender and one of his victims. Schultz would only say that the children are "OK."

"We've got the neighborhood secured," Schultz said. Because of the large size of the Emcore facility, authorities were sweeping the area a second time. "We're looking under every desk, every closet, any place anyone could be concealed," Schultz told reporters.

Police are continuing the investigation at a community center near the business, where some 85 employees who were inside the building at the time of the shooting are being interviewed before being released.

I saw in another article that he had at least one other prior for domestic violence. So, he was probably another one who shouldn't have had a gun lawfully.

Wanna bet the business has a "NO GUNS" policy so the shooter was assured a resistance free killing field.

I knew it was bound to happen here sooner or later. Only 20 miles from me.

I think I do a pretty good job of staying out of risky areas. However there are two scenarios that are hard to avoid.

    1. Getting caught in an armed robbery while in a convenience store.

    2. Getting caught in a domestic shooting while minding my own business at a restaurant, work, WW, or wherever.
Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME. Our success in this will be proportional to how hard we work to make it happen.

    Ditto and agreed.
    I'm of exact same mind.

Going by odds alone as related to my age, social class, area of residence, community surroundings and the fact that I do not go into 'trouble area' hot spots all that often....These three are what I now in my current lifestyle figure to be most likely items of BG/threat opportunity for me.

    Update on shooting.

KOAT-TV in Albuquerque NM has updated the story with the correct figures. Actually a total of 7 people were shot and three were killed including the shooter, who commited suicide.
Earlier reports of 10 being shot and six being killed are incorrect according to the APD Chief of Police.
No one has been identified as of yet, but the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute between the shooter and his former wife/girlfriend who is among the survivors.
