WV State Trooper Shoots Assailant at S.P. Detachment
Sounds like this guy really had a beef with the West Virginia State Police. Not much in the story, guess they still do not have all the details.
W.Va. trooper shoots, kills man outside detachment
August 11, 2010 @ 08:32 PM
ELIZABETH, W.Va. (AP) — A State Police spokesman says a trooper has fatally shot an armed man outside of a detachment in Wirt County.
Sgt. Michael Baylous says the trooper was responding to a report of shots fired late Wednesday afternoon at the Elizabeth detachment from outside the empty building. As the trooper arrived, he was confronted by a man with a rifle and responded by shooting the man.
The man, who wasn’t immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baylous says the man had apparently forced a UPS driver in Ritchie County to take him to the Elizabeth detachment. The man allegedly got out of the delivery truck, walked across the parking lot and opened fire on the detachment. The UPS driver wasn’t injured.
Baylous declined to release the trooper’s name.

Detachment is also the term used as the collective noun for personnel manning an artillery piece (e.g. gun detachment).
A Cadet detachment usually consists of between 10 and 40 cadets. Several detachments make up a company.

A Detachment, and or Barracks,is a divisional office for state police, since there are several districts in most states Troopers are assigned to the different detachments and can switch, almost like being in the military only staying within one states boundaries.
Most detachments usually are empty except during shift change or when troopers need to drop off or pick up paperwork
