I am surprised that more medics aren't injured or killed every year. I hope the medic makes a full recovery and the shooter meets a slow painful death.

My wife & I stay in Williamson, WV every year when we go down to Kentucky for Memorial Day, seems like a quiet little town? Hope the PM gets well, and the BG is caught and dealt with.

Delaware just passed a law making it a Class F felony if you strike a first responder with your vehicle while they are rendering aid.

Too bad the BG didn't have a heart attack and then get no response due to the PM being treated for GS wound.

The problem is I doubt if she can carry while on duty.

Maybe we need to start issuing a rifleman to every ambulance.
I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry.

    That's a great idea!
Somebody needs to protect us. My organization has a full on ban on all "weapons" and them even being in your vehicle on co. property.
I got in trouble for wearing my Gerber multi-tool one time because it has a blade on it.
They told me if I broke the blade off I could carry it....WTH? Then it's hardly a Gerber with no knife.
So if I'm confronted with a BG and he's armed somehow I sure hope either my feet or my hands are faster than his.

Um....don't you guys carry shears, scalpels, seat belt cutters, needles, and any other number of sharp objects? I know times are tough and that you most likely love your job, but I couldn't work for anyone who wouldn't let me carry a friggin' multi-tool...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

It's a rough occupation, Been shot once and stabbed twice, on duty. Very few State agencies will allow firearms on ambulances. Best advice is to always have your SA working, Hazards are everywhere.

Well, it is basically a combat zone out there. Someone needs to provide security and that is no joke.

It's ashame that one would stoop so low as to take a shot at someone who tried to give them aid. I'd be totally ticked. I think ambulance rigs should be allowed to carry so as long as they have a permit. I don't know how often paramedics get shot at but if it's common then maybe call police before entering the scene?

    That's what boggles me.
If I'm being threatened and can reach a scalpel will they say I used a weapon? Probably.
I've asked em about the shears and their response was because it has a blunt tip. Seriously? Not when you open it!
As far as leaving my current employer, not an option. I've been here nearly 5 years and the job market sucks right now.
I'm happy for the most part. If I'm skeptical I don't even get out of the rig and if I do certainly not by myself.
