Disturbing - half mile from my home.

A woman was moving in to what I believe was an apartment community and was shot by a man the police think new her. That man then shot himself in the head.

As bad as that is, I think the comment by a neighbor was worse.

"This is kind of close to home," said Cheryl Hoover, 63, who lives within walking distance of the incident.

"I never dreamed anything like this would happen on this side of town. I felt safe over here."
    Head-in-the-sand syndrome.

I should clarify why I think the comment was worse than the terrible incident. In the last year the west side of Lansing/Delta Township has had a large increase in theft, assault and other violent crime. This woman obviously has reduced her world to just a couple of blocks. When I was growing up, if something like this happen in the same county we were in, my parents would be nervous. Now it has to happen within a couple of blocks to even register on some folks.

Desensitized? Maybe, but it is not an excuse I accept. We have to start CARING again!

    Sorry. Rant off.

Sounds like a lady leaving a bad situation and it followed her......bad all around.

It is disturbing to see so many people with their heads in the sand.
Soon it will not be 'in the county', or a 'few blocks away', but instead..."I'm getting a little nervous because the houses on both sides of me have had home invasions, I can't believe that crime is getting closer."
