Question What the??? Shooting at a Baptism Party?

I thought my Episcopalian Baptism was rough, but this is just insane.

Never ever heard of a "Baptism Party" at a "Progressive Men's Club" though.

Cops: 6 arrested after gunfire at baptism party

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) -- Police said a baptism party where some uninvited guests arrived turned into a brawl that resulted in gunfire. Police were dispatched to the Progressive Men's Club at 2 a.m. Saturday after a caller reported gunfire. Witness Amy Manjarrez told Fort Smith television station KHBS that her uncle was pistol whipped and that others, including her father and a disk jockey, were beaten.

Police said one person fired a gun in the air and then into the crowd, though no one was wounded.

Investigators said six juveniles were arrested. Their names weren't released because of their ages. One youth was charged with aggravated assault. Other charges include curfew violations, marijuana possession and carrying a weapon.

Talk about a tough crowd! I've never been to a baptism that had a disc jockey, all all have been in a church.
Is it just me or might there be something else to this "Baptism"?

You sure this wasn't a bad Antonio Bandaras movie?

I would suspect that this was a post baptismal party. Some folks have a party for anything. Others like to bust into them.

    Progressive Men's Club?
What pray tell is a "Progressive Men's Club"?
It certainly doesn't sound like a church.

As noted by another poster, it sounds like a post baptismal party in rented space. Such parties are usually thrown by the family of the participant who may have preferred the amenities at the facility to whatever meeting space the church possessed (for any number of reasons).

I have no issue with the event not being held in a church or even there being a disc jockey rather than say a live choir.

But, why would you schedule (and attend!) a baptism service [or post baptismal after party!?] to occur at 2AM?

Nail in the FAIL coffin right there.
    Do not do this.

We use to have stabbings and shootings at wedding receptions, bachelor parties, anniversary parties, etc. It seemed a common thing.

I definitely seen my share of these events as well.

Like others have said, I've never really heard of a "Baptism" party. As a christian, I would find it strange to have a Baptism party; especially one that takes place at 2am in the morning; at a "Mens Club".
