Check out the government boondoggle in this article...
Okay read this article to see government boondoggle at its worst. The White House refers questions to the Pentagon, which refers questions to the US Embassy, which refers questions to the State Department. The State Department refers questions to BATFE, which refers questions to DOJ. DOJ then refers questions back to the State Department. Translation: We have no good reason and will give you the run around until you quit asking.

That seems about right.... But we all know that if one particular person didn't want these guns kept out of the US, then there would have never been an issue to begin with.
Does anyone else find it interesting that the M1 Garand - the backbone of the CMP (a federally administered organization) - is being demonized here as some sort of super-dangerous War Machine?
And by "interesting," of course, I mean "hypocritical" and "stupid."
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Wait a minute, we "gave" them the guns and now they want to "sell" them back? That's the boondoggle.

Boondoggle is pretty much what Harry Truman referred to as "passing the buck" except that these days there is no place for the buck to stop.
