Watch video and think "could I have drawn and fired fast enough with my CCW?" Luckily the cop was already in position and fired immediately, yet see how close the guy came. Note site is somewhat NSFW. Sorry, fuzzy video.
Suicide by cop?
A CCW is like a parachute; if you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again.
I'm thinking drunk teenager? Or just plain Darwin Award contender.
I have spent the greater part of my life working on, among other things, the rapid deployment of firearms. There are those who view such ability with disdain, I obviously disagree with that point of view.
In the video the officer had already begun movement as the knife wielder approached. Hopefully he would have shifted from a rearward movement to something more oblque if necessary.
You've got to ask yourself one question, "do I feel lucky?" Well do ya, punk?

Suicide? Mmmmm...did the kid think that the cop wouldn't shoot?
This officer had no choice.

The kid got exactly what he deserved.
You cannot threaten people, particularly cops who are pointing a gun at you, and think you can get away with it.

Only one shot fired by the LEO. Fortunately the offender was stopped by it. Most training has two to three rounds at a minimum in rapid succession. Good ending.

The rush from 21 feet is something everyone need to experience in a FOF drill with knife attacker and airsoft from your EDC. Will open some eyes and shows you just what you can do and can't do. Movement off the X helps.
Somewhat off-topic, but a FOF CLASS is what anyone who thinks ""they are good enough" needs to take to proven to themselves that it is true.

I perceived that two shots were fired so I did some looking. The comments here on page one and two of comments seem to substantiate that.
I agree that FoF can be an eye opener for some people. Movement can be very advantageous , but what is usually not duplicated in FoF is your rounds being effective in stopping the threat befor it reaches you. Perhaps that is good as that might perpetuate the inclination to stay rooted.

Makes me think I should observe the 30 foot rule. The cop already had his pistol out, plus the attacker was committing a RWF (Running While Fat).
The officer did hesitate slightly befor firing, during which the susp covered several feet. Perhaps he was hoping that the susp would stop, then determining that he would not fired. He was sharp enough to not stop with one shot. Predetermination to fire, without hesitation, would eliminate that lost time.
Well, considering the officer had gun pulled and aimed, that guy made a fair amount of distance before the officer could pull the trigger. Now, add in drawing and taking aim.... he would have already been stabbed and possibly down.
