Just another weekend in Phoenix... all bad

    1. Tempe home invasion - note, in the middle of the afternoon.

TEMPE, AZ - Police arrested two men and are searching for more suspects after a home invasion in Tempe Sunday.

According to Tempe police, around 4:20 p.m. a neighbor reported that a nearby home was being robbed.

Police said the suspects fled on foot, but one was caught quickly and the other was taken into custody a short time later. The men were reportedly armed with rifles.

    2. PD: 2 men dead in Chandler shooting

About a mile from where I live, in a decent neighborhood, a fight broke out over a keg of beer. Sunday night update: the homeowner shot 2 kids - known gang members - who tried to steal beer from a keg party. They initiated a fight and pulled a gun, and he fired back. Several others have been arrested and are expected to be charged with capital felony.

    3. Armored car guard shot at Glendale store

What could be safer than a trip to Wal-Mart on Sunday afternoon? (Take heed, all "Wally-World Walkers.")

GLENDALE, AZ - Glendale police are searching for a man who shot and injured an armored truck guard as he was making a pickup at a Walmart.
Glendale Police Sgt. Brent Coombs said the Loomis armored truck employee was making a pickup at the store when he was approached by a black male and robbed toward the front of the store. The suspect fired several rounds at the employee, Coombs said.
Coombs said the driver was shot in the hand and the leg and that the wounds are "survivable."
"It was very scary," said Susana Zelaya who was shopping at the time of the robbery. "I was near the fruits and vegetables when I heard the two shots."

Here's the takeaway: Violence can erupt ANY time, ANY where.

Typical big city stuff. Tempe, Glendale, Chandler covers a large area with lots of people. A few bad ones too.

    What a mess!!

    Re: 1. Tempe Home Invasion-
Is the media reporting making this worse by calling it a 'home invasion'?
"Police say no one was home at the time of the robbery and no one was injured."
I thought people had to be in the home at the time of the break-in/robbery/burglary for it to be a 'home invasion'.

More than likely, just media ignorance of the difference between a burglary, robbery and home invasion. Or just that "Home Invasion" sounds more sensational.

Weekend in my neck of the woods:
    No Robberies
    No Break-ins
    No shootings
No Kids getting shot for stealing beer.
No Well, nothing really happened at all.

Ah, those weren't 'kids'...they were gang members, who first threatened, then assaulted...then pulled a gun on the homeowner/shooter/CCW permit holder.
It was only after all of that, that the guy started shooting.
The article noted that the shooter had shown great restraint.

Your neck of the woods sounds as pleasantly boring as mine.

What better reason to be armed at all times. Hooray for Arizona's enlightened stance on gun ownership and CC.
The only way to deal with crime is proactively, a dead criminal does not commit more crime.

Good news. Doesn't mean it can't or won't happen.

That was kinda my point... under what circumstances would you feel so safe that you would disarm? Precious few for me.

Murphy's Law says that the one time you innocently disarm, will be the (I can't believe it happened here) moment that you get your name put in the BG's book of targets.OMOYMV
