My wife told me about this. I asked her to follow the case and let me know if the guy got off. She was not amused.

I've been following this case since it began, as Newport is within spitting distance of me. Set aside the merits of the defense for a minute; since when is being under the influence of anything an allowable defense to murder? Drunk or on drugs it does not matter. A criminal act is a criminal act and should be dealt with accordingly.

I thought caffeine made us MORE aware? Being a mild stimulant and all....

More aware ... that criminality might be more achievable in such a feel-good state, effectively provoking those things to happen? Can't imagine what the actual train of logic was, in the submitted "defense."

I've drank many energy drinks when I needed to get work on my car done. It never made me want to kill anybody. It just made my legs start to quiver when my brain told me they were tired, but the caffeine said otherwise. I'd be more prone to wanting to kill people WITHOUT caffeine, haha!

Caffeine is evil, it kills people. We should ban caffeine.
I'd rather give up my guns.
