Fort Bliss Shooting
EL PASO, Texas
A shooting on the El Paso, Texas military installation Fort Bliss has claimed the life of at least one person and left two other people victimized.
US military officials say the man, whose name has not yet been released, was shot dead by law enforcement officials after opening fire on two people at the installation's minimart shopping center known as the "Shopette" on Marshall Road.
At a press conference Monday afternoon, military officials said the shooting was being investigated by federal law enforcement officials. It was not known if the gunman was a soldier at Fort Bliss.
The conditions of the other two victims were not immediately known.

Sad story. I don't know quite all of this story but can comment better when there are more facts to read. I had basic training in Ft.Bliss in 1989. Pretty nice area if you like the mountains etc.

Yet another example of why our troops should be armed with sidearms, even on U.S. soil.

At the very least E4 and above should all be wearing sidearms

I wonder how many shootings on military bases it will take before CC is allowed on base? This is a big issue that angers me being in the military and not trusted to carry my own firearm but can shoot a m16/249/240B/etc while training and overseas?

The exact opposite is happening. Every time one of these shootings occur, they look at making it harder for us.

Ya, it's pretty sad... Our military leaders can't see it.

A fine representation of our military defense...soldiers without weapons...or having weapons without ammo.

Turns out shooter was a retired soldier, was perhaps a rejected suitor. One woman died, other still in hospital, sad.
