Homeowner shot while fleeing Fayetteville home invasion NC

Fayetteville, N.C. A Fayetteville homeowner was shot early Tuesday while running for help after three men broke into his house, police said.

Christopher Mitchell and Latoya Paige were asleep in their home on Shads Ford Boulevard in the Valley Forge Estates neighborhood off Morganton Road at about 1:40 a.m. when the home invasion occurred, said Dan Grubb, spokesman for the Fayetteville Police Department.

"They thought they heard a noise, and before they knew it, there were three suspects in the home with weapons," Grubb said.

Mitchell, 32, tried to run next door for help, and one of the intruders fired some shots at him, hitting him once in the hip, Grubb said. He was being treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, but his condition was unknown Tuesday afternoon.

Yet one more reason to have some type of weapon available for SD.

Too sad that it should happen. I hope he gets well soon.

So he ran, leaving his woman alone? Tsk, tsk.

Luckily they are alive. Maybe, if they are legally able to do so, they will arm themselves after this incident.

A good dog alarm could be a big advantage in situations like this. The dog alerts the home owner giving him/her time to wake up and be armed. The dog grabs the attention of the invaders, and while keeping their attention, the home owner calls the coroner.

EB was thinking the same thing I bet he caught holy hell from her "You run off and leave me in the house alone with these guys".

Must be a heck of a neighborhood if a deputy will not open his door to someone asking for help. Hope it all works out for them.

See what happens when you follow anti-gunner advise and run away.

Don't the BG's get it, they should not use deadly force if there is no longer a threat! Oh, I forgot, they don't follow the rules.

    +1 times TWO.
If your dog(s) can help you fight, it's even better.

Yep, that deputy sounds like a real stand up guy and a credit to his uniform.

He should have had a gun handy. Good thing he wasn't killed. Leave the wife there? Typical

Feel sorry for what happen. I hope that guns will gone in this world so that crimes will reduce. There are lots of alternative for self defense.
