According to the story she stated that she didn't mean to shoot anyone and that she fired to scare them off.If you don't feel SD is justified,or in a SD situation you think that just firing a gun will scare them off,you will either come off looking like an idiot and being charged with a crime,or end up getting shot because the BG had a gun and fired back

This little hoodlum needs to be in DSS custody for protection from his neglectful grandmother!
I thought I was the only thing thinking that. In inner city Chicago, there isn't much good that a 12 year old is doing out. His parents should be charged.

Neither would I fire on a person under the reported circumstances.

In claiming she didn't intend to strike them, she's also practically admitting negligence in failing to control her deadly weapon, at minimum. Firing on two known delinquent children after a brick had been tossed? I'd think that one would have to be frail, struck by the brick, threatened with more bricks and much loved to escape charges in most places. I wonder what the full set of circumstances were that the DA/police consisidered before deciding to not press charges.

The DA probably considered the probability of getting a jury of citizens tired of crime, that would "all" vote to convict a terrified old lady and thought better of it.

It is "unamerican" to convict Granny in these circumstances.

She was being attacked by a deadly weapon - a thrown brick can kill you. She fired to stop the attack - it worked. Easy self-defense justification.

No telling where anyone was sitting or standing, whether she was near the window. Could have been in the next room, folding clothes, sitting reading, or whatever. Unknown if she was anywhere near the window, let alone at risk of loss of life or crippling injury. I don't know what the specific statutes say in her state regarding use of force, including deadly force. Either they are lenient, or the police/DA are in such "old lady" situations.

About all we know is: she's an "old lady" who as being harassed by hoodlums doing "drive-bys" on her home (with bricks) after a long string of other harassing acts and torments. As it's "un-American" to charge such a person in such circumstances, particularly if it's going to come out in a political season that the neighborhood and area has been much ignored by authorities charged with cleaning up the streets, the "old lady" doesn't get charged. Not exactly equal protection under the law, but there it is.

I'm surprised she was released without charges filed, since it was in Chicago. I'm sure Daley will pressure the DA to make an example of her.
