Texas sheriff: Mexican bandits entered US waters

ZAPATA, Texas A Texas sheriff says armed Mexican bandits chased an American boater into U.S. waters after shooting her fleeing husband in the head.

Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez also says the bandits probably plucked 30-year-old David Michael Hartley's body from Falcon Lake after the ambush, or let him sink so no evidence of his death remains.

Hartley and his wife, Tiffany, were riding their personal watercrafts from Mexico toward Texas when about six gunmen approached in two boats. Gonzalez says the ambushers shot Hartley as the couple sped away. His wife wasn't hurt.

U.S. and Mexican authorities are resuming the search for Hartley's body Friday.

This stuff is spilling over into our own country very regularly and now and American is killed by these scum. When will we declare war on Mexico? If the Mexican Government can't contain these thugs then at some point they are going to really start going after Americans and when that happens, a state of war, declared or not, will exist between the US and Mexico.

Maybe the time has come to actually do something. But I doubt that the current inhabitant of the White House has the guts to do anything.

Agreed. You are right, current occupant doesn't have the guts for it, and yes something needs to be done about it now. The border needs to be closed all the way across. The illegals need to be rounded up and shipped back. It's sickening what this government has allowed to happen with this issue.

This is out of control. Imagine the outcry of the bleeding hearts, if the couple had been armed and fought back

Fellows, it's not the Mexicans fault, it's because we won't legalize drugs.

It wouldn't be the Mexicans' fault if we simply legalized murder too. When most choices should be answered with black or white answers, why do so many respond with a shade of gray?

Bad argument. There's a world of difference between putting a gun to someone's head and pulling the trigger, and someone snorting their way to fairyland...

But yes back to the OP, I would think we are technically in a de-facto state of war with them now. The only issue is if we are to defend ourselves, we end up in jail over an "international incident".

How can this activity continue to happen in America. Have we become so weak that bands of thugs can come into our county and kill our citizens and go unchallenged. This is an obamination ! If we the people attempted to do anything about this on our own we would be the ones arrested and Hillary would be apologizing to Mexico. This is a national disgrace. Shooting a US citizen in the head riding a jetski has nothing to do with legalizing drugs and everything to do with lawlessness and a complete lack of respect for human life. There is only one way to deal with this scum and it is at the end of a barrel of a armed US citizens gun be they military, law-enforcement or a 2-A patriot. My rant !

it all started when clinton got into officie. he signed nasta treaty with mexico. it allows mexicans to work here and return back to mexico in evening time. we did not really want to cause bad feeling with mexico. now look at the state of affairs down in the desert states. they have no choice but to live by what the democrats got to say. the border needs to not be totally sealed off, just say Ha if you can not take care
of your affairs we will take apporiate action. like shoot on site for tresspassing from mexico to us property. no questions asked none given. the drug boys might see the lite at end of tunnel. i do not say shoot on site but if things do not improve than straihgten the law where if caught you will be taken out and thrown over the fence into chicken barbwire (concenta wire). they only cut one time, no more. we have do something about this problem, before it comes across the border and gets seriously connected.

They were in Mexico, not the US...And as a result suffered from criminal interaction to the negative.
Upon being fired upon they then per the report attempted to retreat back into the US (US waters) by way of their jet skis.

...armed Mexican bandits chased an American boater into U.S. waters after shooting her fleeing husband in the head.

Hartley and his wife, Tiffany, were riding their personal watercrafts from Mexico toward Texas when about six gunmen approached in two boats.
Now flip this quarter to the other side...

Here in the US when Mexican (or Cuban) nationals cross our borders and come into the US by watercraft it is and has long been SOP to consider those persons hostile, until proven else wise.
Further various citizens and citizen groups actively monitor our borders including our waters, and even some have publicly as well as privately endorsed firing upon border crossing foreign nationals on sight...No questions asked. Some of those persons include members here at this site, in this specific sub-area (!).

So we have a case of two _wayward_ and them self border crossing US citizens as into Mexican waters, who in turn were met by Mexican border patrolling citizenry. These citizens were of course acting as a 'militia' and further in specific being unlawful in their overall actions. Additionally they fired upon people whihc is not lawful in Mexico, and in the process murdered one of two border trespassers. Not just a perceptual view but fact, per the information provided in this report.
These two people were not Mexicans and do not live or own land in Mexico. They are Americans who made a very bad error in going over into a foreign countrys land crossing _their_ border.

Very unfortunate that they suffered as they did. No the husband should not have been killed for as much.
But...Texas and the southern US at large has a tremendous amount of _domestic_ waterways where any US citizen can enjoy _our waters_ at their leisure with no concern about being fired upon at all muchless by foreign national bandits/militia.

If the couple did not know they were traveling over and into Mexico or even if they did and just didn't care; Either way at the end of the day it is on their shoulders and in this case literal head to know where the US/MX waterway boundary is and to respect it. Or better yet make the personal choice to not go boating at and beyond waterway boundarys and rather stay well within the US.

This is a very sad and unfortunate situation, but really this was an event very much avoidable and caused singularly by the choices of the couple themself.
Lesson to learn: Stay the heck out of and away from Mexico....If you are not Mexican, or involved in illegal commerce & trade.

If they had been armed and returned fire, this would be an international incident and they would be left alone to suffer criminal punishment at the hand of the Mexcian govt.
Mexican law does not allow civilian possession of firearms never mind that of border crossers.
Same as we here in the US do not support and regularly convict and/or deport same type undocumented border crossing persons that are apprehended and charged of crimes here in the US, and Texas.

Do not go to foreign countries and think that ehh because I'm American I can do and act as how ever I feel because well, I'm an American citizen!
Being an American does not entitle one to a universal access all nations automatic acceptance toward entry passport.
