A remote gun range is not the place to get complacent.
The Usery Pass/Rio Salado range is hardly remote. It's one of the largest public ranges in the state.
Also, it's unclear if the dead guys were found anywhere near the range. Usery Pass road is about 5 miles long; leave it to our astute journalists to think "maybe guys were killed with guns (info unknown so far)" and "gun range on the same road", then try to "connect the dots."
I didn't realize that Usery Pass and Rio Solado were the same. Rio Solado is a nice range.
Not at the range on the road and there are mountain bike and hiking trail access off that road as well.
Technically, it's the Usery Pass Recreational Area, with trails and other facilities as well the range. It's state land, and the range is run by the Rio Salado club on a lease basis. They do a lot of fun stuff there, especially with the action shooting sports. I just started with their Tuesday Night Steel shoots this year until I got sidelined with some medical crap.
The two men whose bodies were found on Usery Pass Road last Friday (near Rio Salado range) likely died from a murder-suicide. Both died from gunshot wounds.
The sheriff's office identified them as 22-year-old Alejandro Rafael Meza, of Rio Rico, and 28-year-old Christian Bolanos Garcia.
Authorities believe Meza and Garcia attacked and stabbed a woman in Scottsdale last Friday morning before fleeing in a car.
