Eight suspects were arrested.
We're all in favor of reducing violent crime. It's just that pro-gunners have a method that is proven effective. Anti-gunners don't.

WOW. Messy situation.
But then again, I guess perhaps I cannot judge. Iraq is a very different place than my comfortable chair here in the US. It doesn't sound like a situation that would've had a good outcome no matter what they did.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Update:
The death toll from a hostage standoff at a Catholic church in Baghdad has risen to 58, police officials with the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Monday.
Seventy-five others were wounded in the attack by armed gunmen Sunday, the officials said, adding that most of the casualties were women and children.
Two priests were also among the dead as well as 17 security officers and five gunmen.

Now you know why I cc in Church! They will eventually figure out that they can't go for the hard targets and will start looking for weaker less secure places where people congregate!

I'm actually surprised no one in Iraq carries. Is it not legal there? Of course, I'm not sure how much a pistol would've helped against a bunch of guys with grenades.

I heard a couple of interviews from people who were inside. They spoke very highly of the forces that came in to get the terrorists.
Kudos to the law enforcement folks who were on that crew!
When a bunch of heavily-armed people storm a room of folks, it's going to take a good number of people being armed in order to make any difference, from the inside. Too bad we can't get it through people's heads just how vulnerable they and their families are, when going about utterly unarmed and reasonably incapable of putting up a defense when attacked. I wish we could wave a magic wand and get 50% of all people on the street trained and carrying on a daily basis. Near-surety of failure and high probability of death would seem to be a decent deterrent to idiots attempting to take control of any citizens.

disarming victims
reduce the number of victims?
