I agree, much better to shut up and walk off alive.

Thats sad, Honestly shutting up might of been better but, how are you going to let someone disrespect your wife? Id have a hard time letting that go, just means you prepare for a fight. My question is if this was a trained marine, why did he still die?, hand to hand vs a knife is difficult but with training compared to someone who might not of had it? Who was the aggressor?

"Who was the aggressor?" That's the problem, you never know who you are dealing with.

Exactly. This is not the movies, anything can happen in the blink of an eye.He could have been looking the other way, aggravated, distracted.Besides, the argument and emotions cause decisions and reactions to be distorted. You have to be calm to defend yourself properly.

And retsup,is a certain individual your thinking of,as far as the corruption goes, living in Tallahassee?

I understand that but, isnt it common sense that if your getting into any situation that is aggressive in any way to be prepared? I see people arguing that dosnt involve me I start to move away to where there might be cover incase someone decides to grab a weapon. Paranoid maybe but cautious. What happened to know your situation and surroundings at all times?

maybe he thought he was the baddest mofo in the world and got caught off guard? maybe the aggressor got lucky? maybe the aggressor is good? I mean i'm 5'5" and train against knife attacks 2-3 weeks and i'm no marine.

In all likelihood, the perp was a common street thug who would just as soon kill you as look at you. Which is what happened here. There's no shame in walking away from a savage. Verbal insults from an ignorant, no-class, street tough aren't words that need to be challenged. Walk on and let the jaw-jacker wallow in his own misery. Not worth it. Also, note the time. 3:30 in the morning on the streets of New Orleans. Nothing good can come from that.

being prepared doesnt guarentee a win...an unfortunate misconception that is shared by too many...i read too many posts i these forums that mirror the thought that there is only one person armed or prepared when a scenario plays out...regardless of how well prepared you are there is someone who is better and counting on fate to find out isnt a good idea...

Very unfortunate. Not enough details for me to add to the discussion of the event. . . .however, as regards New Orleans .....

...the job was finished!! Our government (which cannot 'just say no') in it's infinite ability to achieve amazing feats of stupidity has chosen to re-build (at our considerable taxpayer expense) a city below sea-level that even nature declared untenable!

. . oops my apologies for that spontaneous rant.
