Effectiveness of a gun v. a protective order

Not much detail, but the media did call her the victim -- albeit the case is still "under investigation."

    http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/201...ts-ex-husband/

... was wanted for violating a protective order his ex-wife had against him,

used a ladder to get into the victim’s third-floor bedroom.

...began punching the woman in the head she was in her bed.

The woman got a gun and shot [him].

So is this another case Brady and VPC would describe as the weapon being used against a family member instead of a burglar?

    Yes.

Too bad she didn't shoot him before he got to her.
We're all in favor of reducing violent crime. It's just that pro-gunners have a method that is proven effective. Anti-gunners don't.

Was wanted eliminated for violating that "protective" order. Now, she's protected.

I would say the protective order was proof she was in fear of her life; the gun just stopped the cause of the fear.

I believe a gun and lessons should be given out with every protective order.

While a gun is a tool to protect yourself with, a protective order is nothig more than a piece of paper to wipe yourself with.

+1. The protective order should help the 'victim' at least in a legality sense ,because its prior documented this person has given them reason to fear for their life, and also that this person broke an additional law by violating the order.

A defensive firearm proved to be an excellent, and lifesaving tool in this situation, and hope that the 'victim' is ok.

They should start printing that at the top of every protection order form. In bold.
