Why on earth do they want to revere the old Browning 1911??

John Browning was from Utah, though. So perhaps it is a fitting choice.

Well, if they really wanted to honor JMB why not pick something truly timeless like the Ma Deuce? I mean, the 1911 only lasted in front line service for seventy some years. The M-2 is easily going to pass the century mark.

because he designed it... geez.... give me a break .

Great gun, and still is. That's the first semi- that I learned to use. I wish I had one.

I can think of no finer tribute to John Moses Browning than to honor him by designating one of his many fine creations as the State Gun.

    Wat to go Utah!!!

Well it's not like it's the only thing he designed. And like I said, his M-2 is still taking the fight to the bad guys all over the world. It will easily have a front line service life one and a half times that of the 1911 and quite possibly double it. Heck, his Hi-Power was adopted by three times as many countries as the 1911 was. Yeah it's an OK design but I would not say it is his greatest contribution to the world.

I'm w/ you BikerRN, go for it! But, yea he had so many great designs that are still priceless and used today, but why the 1911? The 100yr anniversary? Maybe they should have a state "something" award/designation that recognizes Mr. Browning not just one of his creations. JMB was one of the best, hands down!
