Very sad. He was a true hero and a great leader. Our greatest generation is almost gone. It's too bad too. America really needs more men like them.

Maj. Winter was a true warrior, and a true leader of men. May he rest in peace, for he certainly did his time in hell.

A great American hero. May he rest in peace with the rest of his soldier friends.

I was wondering about how he was doing just this weekend. So sad to hear, but all the WWII Vets are on borrowed time. My dad, a seabee who suveyed and laid out the pits used to load the atomic bombs on the B-29s in Tinian, passed away last year. A truely great generation that I doubt this country will ever see again. RIP all of them.

I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire six shots or only five?" "Is that a Smith & Wesson 686+ 7 shot or 627 8 shot?" "Does he have a concealed Sig P226 SCT and two spare mags?" You've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Wow. That was unexpected. A loss we can never forget. There aren't many of that generation left. We all sleep safe at night because of Maj Winters and others of his ilk that willingly went through hell time and again for all of us. RIP.

I heard this on the radio this afternoon. I had to explain who he was to my son, who was impressed. Another true hero goes to his final reward. R.I.P. Major Winters.
