It makes me both sad and angry when these things happen. To all brothers in the blue; be careful, be smart, and remember, second place doesn't count.

Very sad. The first officer killed was a male and the second a female. Another officer was injured but is expected to survive.

Just saw that on HLN. So many people fail to understand that, outside of the glitzy art-decco South Beach glamor, the entire area there is a crime-ridden hellhole. A couple of years ago, I drove through the neighborhood in S. Miami where I lived in '63-'65 and would not feel safe doing so again.

Back in the mid-90's I was spending a lot of time down there on business. I was staying at a nice hotel on the beach-front street (the hotel had iron bar gate and a guard in the driveway). I would often hear automatic gunfire in the wee hours of the morning. I hear it's gone down-hill since then.

My heart goes out to these officers and their families.

Heard about this today. Miami is a war-zone, especially in that area. I wonder if there were long guns involved. I wouldn't feel safe in that area with a pistol serving a warrant(murder) for a someone with a 5 page record. Should have sent the SWAT team in.

Miami is always featured on the First 48... it sure ain't glitzy and glamory thats for sure.

    RIP to the fallen officers.

This is becoming a far to common occurrence lately.

What a complete and utter failure of the Florida Criminal Justice System. The parole board that let this POS out has the blood of these two officers on their hands.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Simms was released from prison in September. His criminal record includes convictions for grand theft of a vehicle, robbery with a weapon and cocaine distribution.
That right there says it all: The "justice system" gave a violent felon a slap on the wrist. The killer was 22 years old: With those convictions he should have grown old in prison.

Angry And to add to this...

Two Palm Beach County undercover LEOs were stalked and shot at by another BG last night. Fortunately neither was hit, but last I heard, the BG was still on the loose. The newscast showed the bullet holes through the windows of the UC vehicle.

Eyes open and heads on a swivel, guys.

Lorraine Simms repeatedly apologized for her son's actions, but took exception with the words of Miami-Dade Director James Loftus, who Thursday called Johnny Simms ``evil.''

``My son was not an evil man,'' she said. Immediately after the shooting, she rushed outside to her son's side.

``As I watched my son laying outside dying, my son told me, `Mom, they were going to kill me anyway.' He felt like he had no choice.''

Sorry Mrs. Simms but your son was evil and he did have a choice and he chose the life he lived and all your denial will not change that.
