This news item was posted at Facebook minutes ago by a friend local to my zone.
My response:

I go there...I've been to that Deny's like ten times in the past year, at the same time frame for a middle of the night/early morning all you can eat pancake treat.

Interestingly the guy and two girls who got got are seated at the table... I almost always will choose to select.
It is one of just four along that window wall that offers good 280 deg. view of the parking lot, street and adjacent mall lot as well as he stores main entrance. It is the mid point of the store.
The other booths there have obstructed and limited views, and/or place one too close to the entrance channel as related to response timing.

Thanks for the posting though as I'll make use of this local news event and video toward future civilian defensive seminar & course use among students of my own.

Anytime, anywhere, anyplace, anyone...Over anything and even nothing at all such as pancakes & syrup. : |

CHICOPEE - The utterance "YouTube it!" may not rank among the famous last words of John Adams1 or Jane Austen2, but it's all that passes for oratory in a video of a late-night fight at a Denny's restaurant Sunday.

Police said no arrests have been made in connection with the brawl, which involved two men and three women.

Versions of the video were posted to YouTube, MyFox Boston, and Barstool Sports, as well as MassLive.com. At least three versions of the video have racked up over 70,000 views since they were posted to YouTube Sunday and Monday.

Capt. Steven Muise said police responded to a report of an altercation at the restaurant at 467 Memorial Drive at 1:54 a.m. Sunday.

Initial rumors indicated that the fight was over one party's request that the other party pass a container of syrup, which led to the fight being dubbed "Pancake Brawl" in one video.

Muise, however, said two parties had been involved in an argument, allegedly stemming from a traffic incident, in the parking lot outside the restaurant.

The two groups went inside the restaurant where they continued to argue, Muise said, adding that the fight began with an unidentified Hispanic male punching a white male in the head...

Note the response overall of the other patrons as being anywhere from neutral toward the man being punched to oblivious as others continue to eat their meal as though ignoring this fracas will some how cause the active players to become mute or even to disappear.
These are on the streets members among the jury of our 'peers'. Real world.
Modern times dog eat dogs, pancakes.

If dude who took the punches or either of those girls had happened to be armed not with a gun or a knife but simply a can of stream type (nozzle) OC, the whole thing could have been simma downed inside of seconds upon active threat never mind punches thrown.
Or, simply take the beating and brush off the swelling with an icepack for a day or two.

Everywhere else I've lived that has always been the case.
But this event surprised me as when ever I'm there at roughly this hour it's typically quiet if not dead with little more than a few customers and specifically young Hispanic mothers (the town has a high concentration of same) out with their children they being up and wide awake eating breakfast/dinner/lunch (?). Several months ago I'd posted about this and the Denny's in another thread.

Worst I've seen to date there was a clearly drunken girl drive a car load of friends into the parking lot only to mis judge where to stop and partially driver her car up into and on the dirt berm out front. She then in heels attempted to exit the car only to twist her ankle and fall literally _face_ first to the ground and her head bounced up and back. Instant bloody face.
She came in with her friends escorting and they went straight to the bathroom. We all eating saw this including staff and went OHHHH!
I paid, exited to my tuck and drove over to the adjacent mall parking lot and then dialed 911 to report the incident & driver condition.

I've not been back there since first week of Jan. for lack of interest to go outside in the sub freezing temps.

I agree with the patrons just being victim in waiting, HUGE red flags should have gone up when the 2 males disappeared. Yes a can of OC would have ended it quickly. On a side note that chick throws a mean punch.
