Atlanta Woman Uses Deadly Force to Halt Sexual Assault

Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter told the AJC that the woman, who is in her early 50s, was getting out of the shower when the intruder, who she did not know, turned out the lights and attacked her.

She fell back into the shower, injuring her back, and attempted to fight the man off with the shower rod, Ritter said.

"She was telling him that she has money and please don’t hurt her," Ritter said.

"He forced her into her bedroom," Ritter said. "Once inside the bedroom, she retrieved a .22-caliber pistol and shot him several times." Ritter characterized the attack as an attempted sexual assault.

Proof positive that having a gun is a force equalizer. Good on the survivor for refusing to be a victim.

Good job by the lady, having the mental discipline and tools to do what needed to be done to defend herself.

    Cool

A violent encounter with a proper ending. She kept her wits about her and was victorious in a situation that more times then not does not end as well as this one did. A .22 huh. Oh well just goes to show ya having a gun, any gun can be the determining factor.

So much for the warped logic that states a gun in the home is more likely to be used against the inhabitants than against an attacker in the course of self defense.

Hopefully she'll be freed of her mental scars sooner than later.

Huge lesson here. While hundreds of us thump our chest, a lady with a puny .22 gets the job done. Make this a stickey, re "caliber war".

Gents, can we discuss the merits of the various handgun calibers in another thread of your making, please?

    This is a good story.
The first thing that came to my mind was rather than being forced to the bedroom, the victim could perhaps find some presence of mind to get the attacker into the room where she knew she had the gun. Or maybe she had a hand in that. Tough to say with reporting. Good outcome regardless.

Without the gun in the house, and the knowledge and fortitude to use it, this could have ended very badly!

Also, a great thing it was loaded. How many people who own only a .22 actually keep it loaded? I don't keep my MK III loaded, although I have other firearms that I keep ready for HD.

Glad she was not harmed anymore than she was. She was able to protect her dignity and keep some scumbag from taking it away.

Y'know, that's a good point. The only gun that isn;t locked up while I'm home is my old High-Standard Sharpshooter. That little pistol is a tack driver, but I don't keep it loaded. Since my wife won't carry, maybe I should consider keeping it accessible and loaded. I don't have any kids, and we almost never have guests to worry about, and I know she knows gun safety, though she isn't a shooter.
