That's insane. We need to stop worrying about kids bringing peanut butter to school because someone else may be allergic to it. and concentrate on these very real for the day issues.

Yup. We had a math teacher in HS that kept one on his desk on top of the turn it in box. You had to lift it up then sit is back on your papers when you turned them in. We all thought it was kind of fun. The girls thought he was goofy, but it never went off.

I have one of these on my desk as we speak. You can buy disarmed grenades at any surplus store. The bottoms are bored out, the explosives removed, and the fuse removed from the head. You basically have a lump of metal with a spoon and pin.

Fun novelties, but probably not a good idea for school.

So, letting the grandkids take this in for show and tell might be a bad idea???

Those things are novelty items. I used to see a lot of them around. Hardly a reason to close down the school. I can't believe there wasn't an adult somewhere in the school who knew what the thing was. How much are we paying these people to make our kids insane?

Around here, the teachers seem to want to find reasons to get out as badly as the kids do.

More than they want to admit to - that's for sure.

It seems common today to push decision making to the highest level of ineptitude possible.

Heck in 9th grade I gave one to my social studies teacher for his birthday! But then again, I also carried a folding Buck knife on my belt and nobody had a problem with that either.
