Suspect Dead, Police Officer Shot In Manchester Standoff - Connecticut News Story - WFSB Hartford

As far as his condition a friend has informed me that he has sinve past.

Police said Officer William Beeler was investigating an incident on Courtland Street around 5:30 p.m on Thursday, where a man armed with two weapons had barricaded himself inside his home with his wife and children, ages 10 and 13.

Police said the man shot Beeler in the shoulder when the officer entered the home. Beeler, who has been with the department for three years, was transported to Hartford Hospital where he remains in fair condition, according to the hospital.

update by the Hartford Courant is the cop is ok and a full recovery is expected. not so for the dead guy...sniper did him as he was firing indiscriminately from the house ( or porch--some conflicting witnesses). started as a domestic.

11 pm news showed more police and fire equipment than i ever thought the entire state of corrupticut had. for sure they have it so it must roll to justify its existence. it just looked so silly (outside of a war zone ) to see so much ops equipment. one 'truck' they proudly explained could reach a 4th floor and fjord a river 5'deep. it was almost as long as the fire ladder truck next to it.
good it is that the cop will recover. the story starts in 1997ish with family problems. it is thought that the foreclosure may have been his trigger today.note--reporter says some families are afraid to sleep at home and are planning to stay with friends. the red cross was there and a police tent was erected. the media is making a circus of this. I'm bewildered that the people are seeming to eat this up like a...circus.
the overall situation is wrong on so many levels.
one bothering me is the line crossed by the media between reporting the news and creating it.

    I love a happy ending.
I havenít heard any of the journalists who volunteered to be waterboarded asking to have their fingernails wrenched out with pliers, or electrodes attached to their genitals.
