Just about any object can be used as some sort of weapon. We humans have been doing that ever since they picked up the first stone and found out they could use it as an extention to their fist.

Humans are tool makers, but can and do turn the tools into weapons.

I always carry a zebra 301 metal pen when I fly. I tried to use one of the S&W tactical pens with no luck. TSA took it from me saying it was a weapon. I vote to ban Microsoft Office as well. It would make my life a whole lot easier.

Check this out: Miss Kentucky Latina stabbed a gas station attendant in the neck with a pen - Kramer's Forum

Even worse, her Hubby owned a gun store, where after she was admonished to stay away from, ended up there after a break-in.

    Real winner here...

I think the government should regulate the sales of writing instruments. I suggest that only those that have a permit and proper training should be able to purchase and carry them. I would also suggest microstamping the pens and refills, cartridges, etc. to make it easier for investigators to trace the owner, who of course, would be the primary suspect of any crime involving such evil writing instrument(s). And, absolutely no more than one additional refill would be allowed to be carried.

I'm really beginning to dislike those damn Irish People.
Can't trust them with a pen either.
And I always judged people by their heart rather than their Irish background.
It's sad that they have done this to me. I don't trust people anymore.
We can't afford to be so naive anymore.

No need to call for armed Irish Attacks; they'll just switch to something else.
I can see it now; all those school children will be subject to the "Zero Tolerance Policy" for carrying a writing instrument to school.

We need to follow the Swiss example and arm everyone!

the TSA is mostly about the political and powerful being protected. and any time the govt can grab more power ( esp from the people) they will.
and create an agency that eats more money than ...incredable ain't it

so if the people on the plane want to have at each other, makes great press but put none of the power people at risk.
simplistic, sure...some truth in it, i think so

why aren't private planes checked also? heck, any plane that can carry 500 pounds can deliver a suitcase nuke, dirty bomb or...
but that would be an affront to the political that fly in them, the very rich and famous and the wealthy corporations that own then.
meanwhile, stand here so i can jiggle your junk and take off your sneakers over here and...
Be aware, be deliberate in your actions and be accurate.

Why do those elected to positions of power than work so hard
to deny those same opportunities to the same people who empowered them

When I have to fly, I too, carry two metal pens. With a minimum amount of self defense training, pens can be very effective SD weapons. However, like any other SD weapons, you have to be commited to their effective use which, let's just say, ain't gonna' be pretty.

Should we carry extra replacement filler, too?
