Of course, it goes without saying (story being from Chicago) it would also be good to have a gun to put any magazine into.

Hear, hear.
There is a current discussion on this mess over in "Defensive Carry Scenarios":
True Story in News 6/5/11: Flash Mob in Chicago: 2 Severely Beaten & Robbed
"Historical examination of the right to bear arms, from English antecedents to the drafting of the Second Amendment, bears proof that the right to bear arms has consistently been, and should still be, construed as an individual right." -- U.S. District Judge Sam Cummings, Re: U.S. vs Emerson (1999)
Mine only hold 10 rounds, but that's because I bought the M&P .40 in the compact flavor. That's what spares are for.

Mine only hold 8 but they make really big holes,I'd like to see those punks try that in Tx where the chance of them attacking a chl holder,or person legally concealed in vehicle are pretty high,

I'm only carrying 8 in my 1911 today not counting the 2 extra mags. Most of my others hold more including the large mag for my XD Subcompact which holds the 16+1.
I must have more 1911's. Someone donate me a Springfield EMP.
Truth be told, I carry 7+1 + an extra mag and feel just fine with it.
Typically in these kinds of scenarios, once the intended victim lands a few well-placed rounds, the surviving cohorts scatter like the cockroaches they are.
My title, Why does one need a magazine that holds more than ten rounds?, is mostly a commentary on politicians who consider themselves wiser than the rest of the population and therefore compelled to determine how many are "enough" and that any more are just "too many."

So I don't have to reload as often...![]()
My social rifle's 40 round mags are for unfriendly gatherings. Who would love to burn down the neighborhood? Maybe you're not old enough to remember LA riots. Well guess what, they're back. We're just a food stamp credit card reload away from real nastiness.

And if any of the Muslims decide to follow that lunatics advice we are going to be having Dodge City all over the Nation.
Once that report came out I loaded my SKS into a carrying case and filled all the magazines. It now resides under the back seat of my pickup.
And yes, I can reach it from the drivers seat.
If the LA Riots come to my town, I'm afraid there is gonna be a big mess on isle 13.
Texans have this thing about being properly armed for every occasion!
Flash Mobs wouldn't do too well around here. Well, let's say they would be short lived!
What have you done to prepare for the end of civilization as we know it?
Sounds like the time to pull out the 33-round mag to me.![]()

Agreed. There was a show called "After Armageddon" that I caught the other week that was dealing with apocalyptic kind of stuff. There was a guy on there that said that a lot of people go on about how much more civilized we are today than, say compared to people that lived 100s of yrs ago. I don't remember what he said word for word but the gist of what he said was; we're nice as long as things are going well and we're being fed, etc. He said, take away our credit cards, our comforts, amenities, etc. and you may be surprised at how nasty we would become.
I do think that if things got bad that we would see a dramatic increase in violence. Even if it was short while and we knew it was going to be short while, I bet people would be nasty.

You need a mag that carries more than 10 rounds cause' you can't stop at Wal-Mart in the middle of an altercation to purchase more when things go South. There are unknown variables we face when we leave the house everyday. I'd rather have extra ammo and not need it than need it and not have it.
Laws relative to magazine capacity and others similar, are attempts to control human behavior and mitigate the damage from such by outlawing mechanical devices. From what I have seen, the effectiveness of such laws lies somewhere between minimal and nil.

15-20 males walking towards me would be a sign of a very bad day.
