BAD and GOOD - Retired LEO gets shot

I'm very familiar with this location. Until my dad retired 16 yrs ago, he used to have a one man shop for 47 yrs right about where this occured. He used to keep "Mr. Smith" under a rag and pointed at the front door.

It's kinda' neat that the 81 yr young retired LEO still carries but it's too bad he got shot.

I hope for a quick ad complete recovery by the victim. With any luck, the culprit will come out on the losing end on his next encounter.

Retired Detroit Police Officer Carjacked, Shot
81-Year-Old Carjacked On City's East Side

Just caught this, as I'm inside awaiting a call from the doctors office regarding a goofed up bill, and I can't get anything done outside,

    My favorite part;;;;;

Police said the retired officer fired back, but it was not immediately known whether the carjacker had been hit.

    Hopefully they catch the knuckledragger.

This is around 5 miles from where I work.

    Cool

    Good on ya Mr. Baldwin.

There is still a chance the BG might have a souvenir from Mr. Baldwin stuck inside him. One can only hope.

Congrats to this 81 year old cop...it doesn't sound like this dirtbag carjacker was satisfied with just the car. Hopefully, the dirtbag WAS hit...we'll see.

Don't ever pick on a old man; if he is too old to fight he will just shoot you!!

Pray for a speedy recovery, and may the BG get cough.

    Did I read this right?
He exits a Government Building (Post Office) and is confronted by a car jacker where he pulls his concealed carry handgun from his waist band and fires first at the Armed Car Jacker!

    So, I'm scratching my head!
Is it legal to carry a concealed weapin inside a Detroit Post Office but not any other Post Office in the United States?

Wow, Detroit must be one tough city if they allow concelaled handgun inside but not any other Post Office in the Country!

It didn't read that he had time to arm himself with his sidearm before being approached.
Nor did it even say he had time to enter his vehicle where his handgun should have been locked up.
If not, did he carry a loaded weapon inside a POST OFFICE????????

    Wow, balsy!
Had that been me I would have been escorted off to the jail right out of the Hospital.

Here's MI's statute on where not to carry concealed: Michigan Legislature - Section 28.425o. There's no mention of PO's, but that doesn't mean it's prohibited. Maybe this is a topic for another thread.

And yes, depending on time and location in Detroit, it can be a dangerous place to be.

If chargers are brought for him carrying in a Post Office, then someone (whoever charges him) needs to lose their job.

Did the police see that he was armed inside a Post Office? Nope... then he wasn't armed in the Post Office. I'm pretty sure that being armed right outside of a Post Office isn't illegal.

    Personally,
Based on the # of Disgruntled Post Office Employee related shootings, I would think being armed inside a Post Office would be an almost given necessity.

But, some of my good friends are Mail Carriers, and Irish too!

Let's hope that since no one saw him carry inside the PO he doesn't get charged for it.

Wonder what gun he was shooting at him with.
I think he did good, other than that not hiitting the bad guy thing.
