I'm wondering how he tried to defend himself,if he was armed off duty,or tried to go hands on

I used to live in Dekalb County....how bad it has gotten! When I first moved back to Georgia in 2000, I took the test to become a DeKalb Co policeman...but when it came time to take the PT test, that weekend two DeKalb Co cops got shot and I decided that wasn't for me and went back to college instead. I sometimes have second thoughts about where I would be if I had chosen to be a cop. Nothing but respect for those folks!

Two armed men approached a person in an apartment complex parking lot and steal there wallet.

    Happens somewhere nearly everyday.

Not like you might have large blood vessels or skeletal structure to get hit right?

The common lliac artery runs down each leg and a shot from the rear or at an angle in the lower buttock area could penetrate deep enough to damage it causing severe blood loss.

First report, probably from the scene, was "critically injured". May have been blood loss (see Old School above) and/or shock. Later report by a police major said after surgery he was doing well. In any case, thank God and to all the LEOs I say, Stay Safe.

My father's business used to be in DeKalb (Chamblee, to be precise).

We lived in - and I went to high-school in - Alpharetta (Milton, then Chattahoochee), and both of them still reside in the area, in Duluth.

It worries me a bit that I see that area in the news, more and more.

A DeKalb officer, a friend of my father's, was the one who first took us shooting. It was the first time I'd fired a gun - I was in my early teens (we immigrated to the US from Taiwan when I was 9). I think it laid a seed.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured officer.

I wish him a speedy recovery. Duluth, MN is getting bad, too. I'm glad we moved into the countryside.

    The problem is liberals. Period.

They are de-educating our children and telling them how bad guns are and government and police are the only hope if you are in trouble. So as people get older they remember how bad guns were when they were taught in school and that called an investment in your future idiot base.

And my statement above is not reflective of the Police Office rather of the rise in crime in GA. I wish more people packed heat and more grave space started filling up with criminal debris. I live in the metro ATL so I know firsthand how bad it really is.

And lastly its the "do nothing about it" patriots fault for allowing the downhill spiral in sheep filled oblivion our youth is descending into the depths of.
