    Witnesses and police say the 23-year-old Viola was driving when he observed a 57-year-old woman being pushed on the street, got out of his vehicle and chased the alleged assailant with his gun drawn.

    Bolding is mine. Even with a permit, my guess is he'd still be in some trouble... But, the probable MWAG call likely got LEO response to the scene quicker than if Viola had just called 911...

    If any of the firearms offenses are felonies, no more guns for him...

    I couldn't hit the link (it was trying to load some cookies on my machine that I don't allow). However, if he chased the perp (assumes that the perp is running away), he played the stupid game and won a stupid prize.

    Yeah he got real lucky that he was able to run with a gun drawn and nobody got shot. I gotta give him credit for trying to do the right thing but leave the gun out of it until needed.

    Viola tried to do the right thing he just went about it the wrong way.

    The story says he had no permit to carry concealed but it wasn't concealed it was " in position to open fire".

    I wonder if it was loaded? You can carry open if the gun is not loaded right ?

    next time anyone get into something like this you should remember this, it is ok to intervene to stop a crime but once the BG takes flight it is not ok to chase them.
    if the bad guy(s) choose to stand their ground and continue their criminal activity or life threatening acts, shoot them! if they turn and run when you display your weapon, let them run!

    we are not leo's and we are not crime stoppers we are just plain old citizens with permits to carry weapons

    Wouldn't it have been easier to just follow the BG in his car and then run over him saying he jumped out in front of me and I couldn't stop?

    The he could claim his gun was nloaded and locked in the trunk before the Cops showed up.

    So people are just slow thinkers I guess!!!
