Airport Man with gun arrested
It sounds like this guy had bad information, and he is now in deep doo doo, know your laws in your area.
Tx allows anybody legally able to own a gun to carry it concealed in their vehicle without a license, but not in an airport,Sounds like this guy was confused about the law, even after asking LEO's.
AND HE HAD A BADGE, Security Officer, but he isn't a Security Guard

He even did so after being told he could not. This would fall under the "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes" quote.

Hmm seems like he was just determined to do what he wanted to do. I really hope he was not trying to pass as a LEO with his badge on his belt.

A second Border Patrol agent saw Gillen get into a gray 2006 Cadillac STS with Kansas licenses plates

"… The TSA official told Gillen about the paperwork needed and the agent told him he could not carry a weapon, public records show … Gillen, who was dressed in civilian clothing, had a security guard badge on his belt, but police said he is neither a security guard nor a peace officer...". I do not think the problem was that Gillen had bad information, it sounds to me like he knew very well what he was doing.

he is 63 years old...has he a history of doing things against the system?
if this was the 1st time in public that he got his information turned around in his head---
I'm thinking that he is early onset Alzheimer's
the examinations he will will be given will likely reveal this.
as i've noticed about others--that they do not always do as i think they will nor often as they say they will.
this not only makes life interesting, it makes it dangerous too.

While early "old timers" disease might be involved, I think the guy is just plain uh, nuts.
That's a technical term that covers a wide range of inappropriate behavior, some of which is criminal.

Sounds like the old guy has a mental defect

Man walks into airport with gun...
Well, the news story's title did sound like the beginning to a joke!

I've seen some other people on the internet talking about this. I gather that the man may have been testing Texas's travelling laws. Many people have interpreted the laws to say that if a person is travelling that most of the handgun laws don't apply. In texas if you are travelling you do not require a permit to carry a concealed handgun and many suggest that you could even carry it openly despite the fact that Texas does not normally allow OC.

This old guy made some very expensive assumptions.
I'm baffled he continued on after 'asking about' and 'being told the rules/laws'.
Something just doesn't 'click' here...
