HOUSTON – Police are looking for a suspect who attempted to rob a dollar store on Friday, but was scared away by the owner’s gun.

It happened in the 9400 block of North Freeway around 10:30 a.m.

Police said the suspect entered the store and tried to rob the owner with a knife.

The owner pulled out a gun from behind the counter and pointed it at the suspect, who ran from the store, according to police.

Police said the owner chased the suspect outside and fired several shots at the man. The suspect was not hit and fled the scene.

He should have shot when he pointed the gun at the robber while in the store. Would've saved the police all the trouble of hunting for a suspect. I can't understand why armed people wait until the threat is past before they start shooting.

I agee that if the owner was going to shoot it should have been when the suspect was right in front of him. Folks get in trouble for shooting a fleeing suspect.

A man, without force, is without the essential dignity of humanity. Human nature is so constituted, that it cannot honor a helpless man, although it can pity him; and even this it cannot do long, if the signs of power do not arise.

Store owners / people that wait to start shooting at a bad guy / robber while he is running away are just damn stupid. If you chase a robber from your store and then you start shooting at him as he is running away, then the store owner becomes the threat and could be charged with wreckless endangerment if the police decided to do so.

If someone comes into your store and pulls a knife on you in an attempt to rob you, and you have a gun, just shoot the robber, end of threat and one less scum bag walking the streets.
