While it appears that all the details are there, exactly what happened is not very clear.

BG broke into Victim's home early AM, stepped on a squeaky floor board which gave him away. Home owner pumped his shotty and BG made a bee line for the back door.

I wonder why no details went into where/how/what happened with him shooting at the intruder?

Its seems to me, that the more people educate themselves about the laws of self defense the more they are willing to defending themselves.

The home owner here should keep his mouth shut (or be a little less detailed) about what he's going to do next time.OMO

"Two quick pumps of the shotgun..." ***? Oh, I get it, a stupid news reporter. He must have meant the "back then forward stroke" right? ONE racking of the shotgun.

Also, IMHO, better to keep one chambered. An armed intruder (with more cohones) would have fired before the racking was completed.

Under the same circumstances, what do you suspect you would do? I say "suspect" because you never know what you'll do until and if that time comes. Personally, the very first thing I know I will do is identify, to determine if it's friend or foe. If it turned out to be a foe, well, you know he / she is not the neighborhood welcome wagon host. Is he / she there on a home invasion robbery, rape, murder? You don't know and I don't care, it's a life threatening situation in the safety of your own home. Using my Remington 870 Express, 12 ga., 00 buck shot as my primary HD weapon, other things come to mind, such as; who's going to clean up all the blood and gray matter splattered all over the floor and wall. Will I be going to criminal / civil court if I pop the BG? Will the liberal media report the story as a public service message? Did I make a good choice by using my $350.00 Remington pump and not my $1,500.00 Browning Citori when it's confiscated? Seconds or fractions of a second to make your and his / her life changing decision. What do you "think" you would do?

Ya Gotta love the effectiveness of racking the slide of a shot gun. Nothing wrong with taking them out with a loaded .45 either. Pick your Poison

It is said that the best gun fight is the one that never happened.

So it seems this event turned out all right after all.
