Deputy Shot; Bullet-Proof Vest Saves Life

    Prayers for the LEO.

A deputy was shot as he sat in his patrol car in north Harris County Friday, but his bullet-proof vest was credited with saving his life.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the deputy pulled over a vehicle in the 2200 block of FM 1960 at Humble-Westfield Road at 2:40 a.m. for a traffic stop.

One of the four men inside the vehicle got out and fired four shots from a rifle, officials said.

The deputy was still in his car when he saw three bullets shoot through his windshield, investigators said.

One of the rounds hit the deputy in his chest, but the Sheriff's Office said his bullet-proof vest stopped the bullet. The deputy was transported to a hospital as a precaution.

'bout time for some good news, if you can call it that.

I'd prefer to be reading that he dusted the rifleman.

    Scary, Glad he's ok!!

I thought most bullet proof vests were only effective against pistol rounds and couldn't stop most rifle rounds (2000+ fps).
Either way, glad he had it on.

Its possible he was wearing an external vest with plates,It wasn't too long ago a Sgt was assassinated at a red light IIRC it was Harris County.IMHO there should be no life in prison for these guys, they need to be executed upon conviction

Maybe the windshield took enough of the energy or, given the news media's inability to report firearms correctly, it may have been a pistol caliber carbine or even a shotgun.

Edit: Just listened to the news story, the rifle was a .223 weapon and the Deputy's vest had a trauma plate.

The one shot at a red light back in May was Bexar County if that is one you are thinking of.

I am curious if the "rifle" was maybe a pistol caliber carbine.

Glad he is going to be ok. Would have been nice if they could have given us a vehicle description and tag number.

Well, according to the news link one .223 round struck the Deputy's vest trumma plate while the other two rounds struck the car.

According to the LE spokesman, it sounds like the driver got out and began firing before the susp vehicle even stopped.

Sounds like they were out there to kill a LEO, rifle ready, do something to get stopped and then do what they did. They all need to go away for a very very long time.
