Cuomo also pushed for stricter gun control laws from the federal government.

"It has been decades where we have been fighting Washington for sensible laws controlling guns and we need those laws passed and we need them passed now. We're losing too many people out in the streets," he said.

Well, I'm sure tougher gun control laws from Washington will do the trick since the New York gun control laws don't seem to be having a whole lot of effect on anything. Do these people even think before they start spouting this drivel? "People who break the law will obey federal gun control laws because....well, it's a federal law." Yeah, right.

I am not talking about the prisons, I am talking about THIS comment:

"It has been decades where we have been fighting Washington for sensible laws controlling guns and we need those laws passed and we need them passed now. We're losing too many people out in the streets," he said.

Its always the same old tired, worn out song and dance...

    Let's see:

New York is one of the strictest states in the nation with regard to the purchase, possession and carrying of handguns.

New York has enacted it's own "assault weapon ban" and hicap mag ban

New York is a may issue state, which means you have to know someone or jump through many hoops to get a carry permit.

NYC where the majority of these crimes are happening is a no issue jurisdiction for handgun permits

New york recognizes no out of state permits.

NYC where the majority of these crimes is happening is a premise only firearm area, meaning you can't have it outside of your home unless it is locked up and locked down like Ft. Knox.

Now with all of these "laws" they still have firearm crime on the streets of NYC... how can that be???? What does Mayor Bloomhitler and Governor Cuomstalin want? Complete disarmament of the law abiding citizens? Because criminals aren't going to listen.

I am so sick of them blaming southern states and gun shows for the firearm crime in NY.

Some politicians claim to be educated, all I see is ignorance.

Too bad Cuomo isn't in Ohio - we just passed a law allowing firearms in restaurants and bars. Matter of fact the state assembly pretty much now allows guns anywhere and anytime - oh yea, except for the Statehouse, can't carry a gun in there - wonder what that's all about? That's where the real crooks and bad guys are.

A "program" for this, a "program" for that. And if that doesn't work we can create a new "program" to replace the old "program" in light of the present "programs" which don't and have never worked.

    1) The right to keep and bear arms is a Constitutional right. 2) Even if strong anti-gun laws were enacted, law enforcement personnel are almost uneducated, abusive, stupid, corrupt, and inept. No law is properly enforced, nor will be with present law enforcement personnel. Their qulifications and truthfulness must be vastly upgraded. Oh, and they should carry no guns, if no one else can. 3)The "Big Apple" has many worms, and lethal violence is just one.

Sending these already behavioral challenged people back to the streets where they learned their beliefs and behaviors since birth is a fools act. Best was to train them to fit into society is youth camps separated by the severity of the crimes some freer that others in lockdown time. Give them an intelligence appropriate education in how people struggled to come to America and build a better society and teach them skills they can earn their livelihoods by. Give them temporary releases as they prove worthy and future releases based on their improved behavior. If they are freed they will not show up for and 'counseling' as its a badge to "get over" on the mans system.

Very Dumb & pandering to the minority community. Try it & watch what happens especially to the working/struggling neighborhoods where he's trying to impress. They’ll take the brunt of the huge spike in crime.

    1. The Second Amendment is a right, not a privilege, and it can only be taken away through due process. That's how it should be, anyway. 2. Dilute the Second Amendment and law-abiding citizens will have even less protection from the ones he wants to release from prison. 3. Remember; when seconds count the police will be there in minutes. We must be allowed to take responsibility for our own safety and not depend on government for it. 4. Prison is for keeping people off of the street who don't belong with the rest of society. Let's keep it that way.

The problem will never be solved using the so called criminal justice system that favors the guilty and takes great pains to mitigate and excuse criminal behavior even in the face or obvious moral guilt. There's legally guilty and morally guilty. It's time morality take precendence since it has a higher standing than the written word of fallible men.

The man is certifiably insane. If he wants to save money follow the lad of that Arizona Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, dress them in jumpsuits, feed them bologna sandwiches and let them sleep in tents and clean up highways and farm their own food.

@Tanstaafl: You hit it on the button. Prisioners (even in minimum security facitities) cost major bucks to keep behind bars. Chain gang them and them assist in repairing our roads. I drove through the Catskills after Hurricane Irene and saw inmates from the Hudson County Correctional Facility doing this.

I'm all for closing prisons. First we need to clean them out. Repeat offenders get cremated, the rest finish out their sentences knowing what will happen if they don't clean up their act.

If they are unwilling, or unable, to become something other than criminals then that was the path they walked. We make choices, and we need to have real consequences for those actions. Prison clearly isn't a deterrant.

Laws clearly don't deter criminals either. In fact, gun control laws encourage criminals to be more aggressive according to the numbers and studies done.

People like Cuomo can't grasp facts, so you can't argue with them. They're like the crazy bum on the corner claiming the Apocolypse is coming. You ignore them. At least most people do while keeping a watchful eye on them.

I carry to protect myself and my loved ones from the BG's. Not to solve societies problems. That said: if more carried the deterrent would only have a positive overall effect on those problems.

Pandering to the minority community... riiiiight... in Harlem. the ones that he's pandering to, don't vote.

Not what you think, I'm talking about felons, out of prison, but not done with parole. You know, the ones that get guns, and rob, kill, and assault people. The others that have completed parole, and can vote (if they do), are all for Cuomo's scheme... they can get guns any day of the week, and carry 'em too. The rest of us poor sots can't get 'em as easily as the criminals...

    Vote him out.

Vote them all out... every time, til they know who it is they work for...
    Rats!
    It could be worse!

Maybe he should rent out cell space to Calif. and use the profits to finance his community programs.
