Aggrivated assault? How about attempted murder, or murder if the friend dies!

Stupid and infantile, never have understood how people can get so wrapped in an exhibition of two gangs running around a field chasing a ball.

In recent years sports teams have taken on a fan base that has a gang type thought process. That means going to a sporting event with the opposing teams "colors" makes you a target - especially if the home team loses. I don't go to professional sports events anymore because of the drunks, gangstas, and the general behavior of a growing number of this type of "fan base".
Better to avoid all of the types of potential trouble.

Nope, I would rather watch an hour of “Barney the Purple Dinosaur” than to sit through five minutes of ANY “sports” exhibition.

I just refuse to make "rich athletes" richer; I don't support professional sports, because it is a sport not a business (except to these losers); I do not buy the apparel, I'm not being paid to advertise and it's a waste of $$$ for the over-priced gear.

I could argue the complete opposite of this. Deranged felons with firearms who shoot people over commentary about a sports game sounds like a good reason for me to carry. The problem with stadiums is that it's extremely difficult to get a clear shot because of all the people.

Yup. The article says the suspect was a felon with a gun. If one goes out in public, they are out there - self propelled human grenades with an unknown hair trigger. They have a demonstrated disregard for the rules of society. It doesn't take much to set them off after which their disregard of the rules can result in tragic outcomes, as in this case. I don't know if the victims could have fought back or not had they been armed, but at least they would have had a chance.

This happened in and around an Applebees - that's usually a pretty benign environment. Reinforces "any time, any where."

Not really a problem, given the extreme close range of any likely shot.
