Store owner, retired deputy killed in Orange County, NC shooting

Woefully lacking in details but I am curious if the retired deputy was armed and if he was able to return fire on the attackers.

Cedar Grove, N.C. Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon in what appears to be a robbery turned shooting at a thrift store in northern Orange County, a source close to the investigation told WRAL News.

One of the victims is retired Orange County deputy Skip Wade, said the source, who asked to remain anonymous. A family member said the other victim was Phillip Earl Johnson, who owned the Week in Treasures thrift store, near the intersection of Carr Store and Mill Creek roads in Cedar Grove.

One died at the scene and the other died at Duke University Hospital in Durham, the source said. Both suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

    Update

Two held without bond in deaths of Orange store owner, retired deputy

Cedar Grove, N.C. — The two men charged with robbing a Cedar Grove thrift store on Wednesday and shooting the store owner and a retired deputy will spend the next couple of weeks in prison, held without bond on charges of first-degree murder.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested Curtis White, 18, of 5922 Allie Mae Road in Cedar Grove, and Ladell Alverez Faucette, 22, of 5138 Apsley Drive in McLeansville, on Friday.

Deputies responded to the Week in Treasures store, at 2800 Mill Creek Road, on Wednesday afternoon and found two men inside with multiple gunshot wounds. Store owner Phillip Johnson, 52, was dead at the scene, and retired Orange County deputy Alexander "Skip" Wade, 68, died at Duke University Hospital.

They apparently walked in and shot the two victims without even giving them a chance, they should be treated in the same fashion.
