Woman, 20, dies after freak US church shooting

I thought for sure this would have been posted by now. It's almost inconceivable but, then again, maybe not. Cannot imagine the pain EVERYONE is going through from this. Careful on ranting or uber-judging. We had a thread here not long ago where many folk fessed up to some really stoopid close calls with a firearm.

Bad safety practices are deadly..all the victims are out posting how " guns kill " on yahoo.
Why?? Because at the last second, the Police are minutes away.

forgot to clear the chamber after dropping the mag. Unsafe gun handling at its worst.

I agree. Such a sad story.
The original story called the gun a Ruger 9. A lotta people poopoo the mag safety on the LC9 but if the mag is out, gun no go bang.

    'Sigh' Extreemly tragic.

Leave the sidearm alone when not necessary or don't carry it. I kinda see gun safety, in this context, like this, it's a distraction.... like a cell phone. Firearm or cell phone, leave 'em alone unless thier needed...... especially in church.

Checking the gun out in a closet ?!?

What if it was a LC9 or a SR9???? Like you said the gun should not go bang when there is no mag unless someone removed the mag safety. Could be a ND in more ways than one.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. I personally like magazine release safeties. There seems to be a lot of ND's from people who drop the mag, but don't check the chamber. I know it's not fool proof, but it helps. If this was a Ruger like they say, it must have been a model that did not have a mag release safety or it had been removed.

    Absolutely tragic.

Charges do need to be brought against the shooter(s). It may not have been intentional, but it was certainly negligent.

This does leave me to question; If the gun owner handed a chambered firearm to another, and the other pulled the trigger (assuming he was handed an unloaded firearm). Would prosecution bring charges against the owner only, or both? I would assume both?

Ugh - I just read that the trigger man was her fiance. What incredible tragedy! I can only pray for these folks.

EXACTLY!!! He broke so almost all the universal laws of guns. Every gun is always loaded! Don't point, don't touch trigger ! And if you do take it out/ show it and DEFINANTLY if you hand it to someone else you better check it SEVERAL times. Just really really sad, but yes he deserves to face charges. Really stupid.

There should be a law against selling Ruger pistols in church.

Clearing a semi involves racking the sllde back and using your finger to check what your eyes already see...how hard is that?
Although this incident does not involve dirtbags/criminals, there has to be some accountability...we'll see.

In a defense weapon, a mag safety is as dumb as they come.

Man this is horrible! I feel so bad for the family here. I hope the dad can find peace in what he preaches although it would be real easy for your flesh side to take over at this point!
