Man catches robber, holds him at gunpoint...

Ends up going to jail his own self... Why?

Firing a warning shot. Charged with reckless conduct for firing his gun in a residential area... after he "hunted" the bad guy for a half an hour.

You stated the reason in your summary. There was no immediate threat, he was doing his own "police" chase and detainment.

Fight the charges..... Screw the BS. No jury will ever convict him; they will drag him through the red tape hoping he gives up

It was dumb of him to do so.
I don't think he will get a conviction tho.

Man being charged after firing gun into ground to stop burgler

    Read the story here

I certainly hope this gets dismissed.
It's not the weapon that makes me hesitant to fire upon someone at long range, but the legal ramifications and plethora of good prosecuting attorneys.

What worries me even more is that they were able to seize all his weapons, the only time I see this is in drug raids,DV,or high level felonies.

The LEO's in NH were dead against passage of the new gun laws and Castle Doctrine last year. Gov vetoed it and it got overriden. The closer you get to the MA border the worse the attitude gets. But heck, souther NH is really northern MA these days anyway

Wouldn't one expect this to be triple checked before an arrest is made?

And what does NH law say on the matter?

No it is not! Under the new guidelines you can stand your ground if you are in a place you can lawfully be. His trouble might be if he was on the other guys property.

I too hope the charges are dismissed. But even up here you can't chase people and fire warning shots.
