What you say is true, but most BGs are not interested in surviving/winning a gunfight, they are interested in easy pickings. When it turns out otherwise, is it worth their life to get a few bucks or some sex or whatever? Unless you are hiding Ft. Knox, it isn't likely to be a fight to the death to get what you have.
