They shot someone that they admittedly were not trying to hit. That they possibly did not even know was there. Does that not open them up to some sort of charges for negligence or recklessness?

shure wasn't his day.
This is why even mentioning that you fired a 'warning shot' in some states will land you in jail. You're either shooting to stop an immediate lethal threat, or you're negligently discharging.
...Unless you live in Texas. I've never lived there, but there's a lot to love about that state.

You DO still own your bullet, even after you've fired it............
Know your target AND your background....... I read that somewhere.
I've also heard that nothing good happens after midnight........ heard it here as I recall.
I take Mrs. Reagan's advice when it comes to warning shots........."Just say NO".

Violation of Rule # 4 be sure of your target and beyond. I have fired into the ground to make loud noise to try and break up a dog fight, but I knew where my bullet was going; I guess you could call that a warning shot.
Yoda, I am, yes.
The article doesn't say if they fired due to a physical threat or just to scare the thieves off. Either way, that person hit some one they did not intend to shoot. Not good. Hiding in the bushes generally is not considered an imminent threat.
Then again, I wasn't there.....

Yes, the story is quite vague. I posted it because of the 'warning shot' take. What's the point of a warning shot? You've got your gun out - isn't that enough warning?

If she was with the group that were burglarizing the camps, then she put herself in the situation,I am not up on their deadly force laws, but firing warning shots is Stupid and Reckless,I guarantee you if the round kills an innocent victim you will be arrested and tried for Involuntary Manslaughter at the least, and a few other charges.
