    FBI — Table 6

Above is a page for the FBI crime stats for 2010.

Detroit, using the Metropolitan Divisions of Detroit-Livonia-Dearborn and Warren-Troy-Farmington Hills
as an overall mix of Detroit AND suburban cities, has an overall violent crime rate of 635 crimes per 100,000.
    Now comes the surprise;

    Albany Ga. 566 per 100,000
    Albuquerque Nm. 670
    Alexandria La. 638
    Anchorage Ak. 812
    Anderson Sc. 586
    Bakersfield Ca. 593
    Baltimore Md. 685
Battle Creek Mi. 697 (this shocked me)
    Beaumont-Port Arthur, TX 498
    Boston-Quincy, MA 565
    Brunswick, GA 568
    Cleveland, TN 533
    Columbia, SC 716
    Corpus Christi, TX 605
    Danville, IL 606
    Deltona-Daytona Beach, FL 543
    Evansville, IN-KY 493
    Fairbanks, AK 783
    Farmington, NM 645

    You get the idea.
Detroit may suck, but I'll bet your neck of the woods ain't that pretty either.

I moved my butt out of there as soon as I could afford to. I also moved my butt out of michigan 2007 and NEVER looked back. Should have bailed years earlier.

You forgot Warren, Madison Hgts., Clinton Twp, Sterling Heights, Canton, etc...I could name more but I won't.

    Detroit does suck...OK...

The only part of MI that sucks outside of D-town, is the weather. One minute it can be 80 degrees and sunny, the next minute, it can be 50 degrees and raining. Other than that, like oneshot said, very beautiful state...

As I recall, there was some speculation as to the veracity of those stats, as a few of the bigger cities (including NYC, Chicago, and Detroit) were fudging the numbers by only reporting certain crimes, and specifically excluding violent crimes without a suspect, or some such nonsense...
