Shootings and other violence figure largely in the local news out of Columbus, Ohio every single night.
Same here in Metro Kansas City, but Detroit seems to be in the National News more often than others.Quote:

this is nothing new, this has been the norm for that and many other US cities for almost the last 5 decades, the rise in violence seems to mirror the rise in liberalism, in the mid 60's LBJ gave us what he called his great society programs of socialist type programs designed to assist the poor to rise out of poverty, and even I will admit that some of the programs did as the said they would, however most of the programs morphed into venues of corruption for a few spending money wildly in order to make some crooks rich at taxpayer expense.

He makes a comment “I refuse to be afraid of us”. I wonder if he is talking about his OWN RACE… us being the black population of Detroit; Sounds like it to me
I have several friends from here ( Milwaukee area) that like to go to Detroit for the hockey games and they make a weekend out of it. They tell me how much they like the city. Hope Detroit can clean it up!
Well, it tells you something when the police chief brags about the murder rate being on track to be less than 300 this year.

The question should be: what is/are the DIFFERENCE(S) between Detroit and any other city whose crime is nonexistent?
And oh btw, Pastor Winans was robbed of his $75K 2012 suv and his $40K Rolex watch, among other things, like his wallet, cash. I read in another report that he was actually de-pants...:gah: If you don't know who Pastor Winans is, he and his family are popular black gospel singers. He recently made national news when he was asked to deliver the eulogy at Whitney Houston's funeral.

Nothing new or different about the D. Always has been that way in certain areas.
Many years ago, I watched a black comedian and his routine was "I'm from Detroit.......murder Capital of the United States." "Well, not exactly......we lost our title to Washington, DC." "But we got some first round draft picks, traded for some new players to be named later......and yes.....we will regain the title!"
Any large city in America has drug, gang and violence problems, Detriot is not the exception, we just seem to hear more about them.

I've got news for the pastor, this is not nonsense...it's a war.

it's not NEW ... to Detroit, been happening there for a long time. However what is new, some citizens have begun to protect themselves and fight back.
