Ever wonder why U-Haul does not rent one-way out of Detroit or Flint or..... Because the trailors never come back. They are all in TX, AZ or some other haven, and U-Haul pays big $$ for private contractors with pickups to haul them back north.

The police and the politications certinally arn't helping. The elected officals there are cutting services and in many cases, are criminals themselves and the understaffed police are reactionary at best (that's anywhere really) and can't protect you even if you file an order of protection, as it's reported this deceased mother may have done (guessing that's related to this just like the reporter is).

We 'preach' to each other "get a gun, learn to safely use it" all the time here but until a 'real' leader steps up and changes are made at a 'higher' level this situation in D isn't gonna get any better. Detroit will grow tired of this and I forsee vigilantism becoming an issue, possibly. It can get worse there. Martial law could verywell be just around the corner. This is 'doom'n'gloom' from someone who dosn't live there' I'm only seeing and hearing the worst Detroit has to offer right now.........

My heart is angered and so sad for the innocent child who saw her mother gunned down. I pray there's family there for her.

It would have done this poor woman no good to even be armed. She was gunned down when she stepped out of her car.

It has gotten so bad in Detroit and Chicago that I wouldn't even want to fly over them. Is this a picture of the environment that all cities will soon have?

I read a book by the author of "Stranger in a Strange Land", Robert Heinlein. This book was called "I Will Fear No Evil". It was about the future society where the cities were so violent people have to hire body guards just to travel in them. It was like calling a cab, but instead calling armed body guards. Did Heinlein (a conservative) look into a crystal ball? I know his home town (and mine) of Kansas City, Missouri is not too far from Chicago and Detroit in occurrence of senseless violence.

Is there any "thinking" person that can't understand why people feel the need to be armed and trained to protect their families? Apparently there are some politicians....you know...the ones who already have "hired guns" for their protection...who don't feel the regular citizens deserve protecting.

Understand...I don't blame Law Enforcement for this. Their job is a "reactionary" job, like Fire Department and EMS. Their job doesn't start until the crime is done. The only people at the crime scene is the criminal and the victims. As they say, "When seconds count, Police are minutes away".

You show me a city with a failing (failed) economy and I can show you rampant violence. You name the cities with the most violence and there is a direct correlation with poor infrastructure, mismanagement and a lack of economic activity. The city is a time bomb!!

I've got family on both sides in the D and I've always visited since a youngster. The last time I went I was amazed that everything looked the same or worse!! No new construction no new stores NOTHING!

Good thing MI has full reciprocity! I will make sure I'm locked and loaded on the next trip!

At the risk of making MoTown appear to be more of a dangerous hell hole than it already is, I've been posting a lot of these Detroit reports on criminal activity.

I don't necessarily do it to give the D a bad rep to those of you who haven't lived or visited there, I do it primarily to provide examples of potential or real self-defense situations that we, hopefully, can all learn from.

Believe me, there are many more crimes I could post, however, most of the ones I do post will involve a firearm and or self defense situation.
